The 2020-21 high school sports season wrapped up in Pearl last week with the baseball championships, and three area teams brought home titles.
Brad and Dillon recap Tupelo Christian’s sweep of Resurrection Catholic in Class 1A (1:42), as Noah Foster came up big on the mound. In 3A, Booneville’s bats went off in a Game 3 defeat of Magee as the Blue Devils won their first title since 1999 (4:25). And in 5A, Saltillo ended a 49-year title drought by topping Pascagoula in three games (7:26).
East Union was swept in the 2A finals by Taylorsville (10:55), but pitcher Carter Phillips bounced back from a scary injury in Game 1.
On the coaching front, there have been a lot of moves lately. In fact, East Union baseball coach Chris Basil has retired after 29 years at the helm (13:32). Also stepping down is Ingomar baseball coach Andy Wilbanks, and he’ll be replaced by Ben Wallis (15:35).
Shane Hayles has left Nettleton to be the boys basketball coach at Mantachie (16:24), and Thrasher has hired longtime Warren Central assistant Ross Coley as head football coach (17:01).
