#243: COVID ripping through football schedule – 08/18/21

The 2021 football season starts next week, but not for everybody.

On this week’s episode, Brad and Dillon examine how COVID-19 has disrupted the first two weeks of the 2021 schedule (9:07). Several teams are in quarantine, including Aberdeen, Nettleton and North Pontotoc. That means lost games in Week 1 and, in some cases, Week 2.

Also today, the guys have an update on Mooreville, which is led by veteran quarterback Dawson Phillips (1:44). And over at Amory, running back Charleston French will be leaned on heavily as the offense’s lone returning skill starter (4:10).

On the volleyball court, Lafayette blew past Tupelo on Tuesday (7:33), with Kailey Gooch and Harmony Jackson combining for 20 kills. Also on the show, a Shoutout to the Tupelo 49ers (14:32).

#242: Football practices, volleyball season begin – 08/11/21

Welcome to a new fall sports season! Well, for most.

Brad and Dillon are back to talk about the start of football preseason camp. Biggersville is looking to build on last season’s unprecedented success (1:40), when it reached the Class 1A state championship game. East Union, meanwhile, is hitting the reset button after reaching the 2A North final last year (5:00).

Volleyball season also began this week. Alcorn Central, led by Mia Griffin, rolled to a win over Saltillo (7:49). Tupelo fell to reigning 6A champ DeSoto Central (9:20), and Hickory Flat knocked off Ripley despite a quiet night from Emma Wilson (10:25).

COVID-19 has also shown back up (12:31). Calhoun City’s football team has gone into quarantine and will have to forfeit its season opener.

Also today, the Tupelo 49ers are headed to the American Legion World Series (16:57), and Kinsley Gordon has committed to Southern Miss (19:13).

#241: Football, volleyball seasons coming soon – 08/04/21

It’s August, which means the fall sports season begins soon. On this episode, Brad and Dillon discuss several football-related topics.

For instance, Tupelo Christian is going to lean on several transfers this season (1:53), including running back/linebacker Jaden Warren and 6-foot-6, 250-pound defensive lineman Isaiah Autry.

Kossuth also picked up a big transfer, as Jack Johnson moved in from McNairy Central (Tenn.) to take over at quarterback (5:27). Lafayette lost its starting QB to injury but should still be OK at that position (6:24).

The guys also discuss the potential impact of Chris Rodgers at Corinth (7:34). He’s a proven defender but will now take over lead tailback duties. And at Walnut, a quarterback injury has the Wildcats scrambling for a replacement (10:22).

Volleyball also starts soon, and the guys look at some of the teams expected to do well (12:30).
