#225: Amory, Corinth make big coaching hires – 3/31/21

There have been a couple of big coaching moves in the past week.

Brad and Dillon look at both of them, starting with Amory hiring Brooks Dampeer as head football coach (8:31). Dampeer is a familiar name in local coaching circles – Brooks’ brother Baylor is head coach at Houston, and their father Charlie has coached in the area for a long time.

On the basketball court, Corinth has nabbed Adam Kirk (10:54), who had a successful six-year run as Ripley’s boys coach. He replaces the retiring Keith Greene.

On the diamond, the guys recap Tupelo Christian’s shutout win against Baldwyn (1:37), as Daniel Reddout tossed a gem. And South Pontotoc’s softball team blew past Pontotoc (4:17) behind the arm of Allyson Harrison and the bat of Secora Weeks.

A couple of key games to keep an eye on Thursday include Mooreville at South Pontotoc baseball and Center Hill at Saltillo softball (7:13). Also on the show: All-Area soccer (13:09), a Shoutout (15:23) and Athletes of the Week (16:06).

#224: Nettleton, Pine Grove earn big baseball wins – 03/24/21

Division play is heating up on the diamond, and the guys are here to break down some of the big games.

Nettleton topped 1-3A rival Amory in a pitchers’ duel on Monday (2:15), as Davis Oswalt got the edge on Bo Rock in a 1-0, eight-inning affair. In 1-1A, Pine Grove knocked off Biggersville (5:37), with Jacob “Peanut” Hopkins’ three-run homer providing a spark.

Looking ahead, the South Pontotoc and Mooreville softball teams are supposed to play twice this week (8:03), but Tuesday’s game was postponed by weather – and Thursday’s likely will be as well. Both teams are part of an extremely deep Division 2-4A.

Ripley will visit New Albany in a 1-4A baseball game Friday (10:32). The Tigers beat the Bulldogs earlier this week.

#223: Five area teams bring back gold balls – 03/10/21

Brad and Dillon have returned from their Jackson adventures, which included a fan brawl, a big game-ending controversy, and five state championships for area basketball teams.

Ingomar’s girls were the unlikeliest of champions (2:45). But the young squad has a promising future and could be on the cusp of a big run. New Site’s girls found some redemption in Class 2A (6:45), taking down reigning champ Calhoun City. Belmont’s girls found revenge (9:38), beating the Kossuth team that knocked them off in the 3A final two years ago.

Pontotoc’s girls met expectations by winning the 4A crown (12:40). And then there was the 1A boys title game, which Biggersville won over Ingomar on a buzzer beater by Cam Smith (15:36). The winning play and what led up to it was rife with controversy.

Also on the show, the guys recap a Pontotoc baseball loss and a Tishomingo County softball win (21:09), plus they look ahead to some of this weekend’s diamond action (23:10).

There is some big basketball coaching news (24:32), and the guys also have a Shoutout (26:00) and Athletes of the Week (26:28).
