#170: Battle of unbeatens highlights Week 6 – 09/25/19

Some big-time football games are on tap for this Friday.

Two undefeated teams clash in Fulton when Itawamba AHS hosts Houston (8:58). The Indians are led on offense by Ike Chandler, who’s already rushed for over 1,000 yards, but Houston has a stingy defense that can wreak havoc on opposing backfields.

Starkville hosts South Panola in the Division 2-6A opener for both squads (11:15). The visiting Tigers are off to a 5-0 start, but the Yellowjackets are notoriously tough to beat at home. And in 1-6A, Tupelo is back after a week off, traveling to Hernando (13:35).

As for Week 5 action, Brad and Dalton recap wins by Calhoun City (1:57), New Albany (4:56) and Booneville (6:32).

The guys also give a Shoutout to West Union’s Annie Orman (16:12), and they present Athletes of the Week (18:02).

#169: Bulldogs living on the edge, face Troopers next – 09/18/19

Week 4 of the football season saw some intriguing results, and Brad and Dalton are here to break it all down.

West Point blew out Tupelo with the aid of some early turnovers (2:04). In a big Division 2-1A clash, Noxapater edged Smithville in overtime (4:38). And New Albany earned a high-scoring one-point win for the second straight week (8:17).

Next for New Albany is a visit from Mooreville (11:45), and whaddya know, both squads are 3-1. Other games to watch this Friday include East Webster at East Union (10:10) and Booneville at Saltillo (12:34).

The guys also have some basketball news (14:46), a Shoutout (16:59) and Athletes of the Week (17:43).

#168: Both Waves roll, set to clash Friday – 09/11/19

There were some thrilling finishes last weekend on area football fields, and some big matchups are set for this Friday.

Tupelo’s win over Neshoba Central was relatively drama-free (2:17), as Ole Miss commit Jaycob Horn showcased his wide array of skills. It was a different story with Booneville and Ripley (5:57), as the Blue Devils won on a late field goal by Noah Sisk (not Fisk!). West Point beat rival Starkville in a game of wild momentum swings (8:20), and Houston engineered a furious fourth quarter comeback to topple New Hope (9:25).

And so the stage is set for Week 4, which features the Tupelo Golden Wave visiting the West Point Green Wave (10:17). Also on tap is the annual Crosstown Classic between Oxford and Lafayette (12:39). And believe it or not, division play begins this week for teams in 2-1A (14:30), with Smithville and TCPS among those in action.

#167: Wave edge Warriors; West Point falls – 09/04/19

There was plenty of intrigue in Week 2 of the football season.

Tupelo went on the road and won a thriller against Corinth (1:21), as QB Jake Weir had a breakout game and Tanner Goggans hit a late game-winning field goal. In the annual Skunk Bowl, Davian Price rushed for 211 yards and five touchdowns as Booneville rolled past Baldwyn (4:30). And West Point – the three-time reigning Class 5A state champion – gave up 38 points in a loss to Louisville (5:48).

Week 3 has some promising matchups. Tupelo is back at home to take on Neshoba Central (6:54), a strong 5A team. No. 1 Starkville visits No. 2 West Point in a big rival game (8:58), and Kossuth visits Mooreville in what Brad says could be a “sneaky good” matchup (10:42).

Also this week, the guys give a Shoutout to Corinth cross country (12:48), and they present Athletes of the Week (13:26).
