#273: Baseball, softball playoffs in full swing – 04/28/22

Brad has a packed show today, as baseball and softball playoffs got started last weekend.

Tupelo’s girls continued a late-season surge by sweeping Southaven (3:29). Calhoun City went three games to knock off Potts Camp (4:08). Some intriguing matchups highlight Round 2 (4:41).

On the baseball diamond, Starkville pulled out a first-round win over South Panola behind the play of Ethan Pulliam (5:35). Mooreville blew past South Pontotoc (6:41), and Itawamba AHS upset Ripley (7:05). Second-round action includes Saltillo vs. Lafayette and Booneville vs. Nettleton (7:38).

There’s some football to discuss, too. Tishomingo County has hired Cory Quinn as its head coach (8:07), and Tupelo opened spring practices with fresh hopes (9:14).

#272: Division races wrap up, playoffs set – 04/20/22

Baseball and softball division races have wrapped up, setting the table for the first round of the playoffs.

Corinth’s softball team won Division 1-4A by knocking off Tishomingo County (2:00), as eighth grader Kinley Pittman had a big game. In 1-3A, Kossuth edged Mantachie to earn the top seed (3:45). Brad takes a look at some of the notable playoff matchups this weekend (6:00).

On the baseball side, Nettleton beat Amory to claim the 4-3A crown (6:42), while New Hope clipped Saltillo for the 1-5A title (7:09). Notable playoff matchups include South Pontotoc-Mooreville and Itawamba AHS-Ripley (7:48).

Also on the show, Tupelo is losing a couple of coaches (8:51), while Corinth has made several hires (10:30). We also have Athletes of the Week (11:57).

#271: Division races continue; coaches on the move – 04/13/22

Baseball and softball teams continue to jockey for playoff position, and Brad is here to break it down.

In Division 1-6A baseball, the berths have already been handed out (1:31), and Tupelo has missed the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. In 4-3A, Amory edged Nettleton in extra innings Tuesday but still has work left to do (3:08). And in 2-4A, the weather put a pause on an important North Pontotoc-New Albany series (3:56).

On the softball diamond, Kossuth got a big 1-3A win over Mantachie on Tuesday and can clinch the No. 1 seed with another win Thursday (4:46). Brad also has an update on Saltillo’s A.K. Willingham (5:45), who has posted some ridiculous pitching numbers.

Plenty of coaches are on the move (7:39): Chris Greer is retiring from Myrtle, Lamart Harvey is leaving Okolona, Kate Osbirn is taking over Pontotoc volleyball, and Courtney O’Briant-Wright has been promoted at East Webster.

#270: Division races tightening up – 04/06/22

Division races are heating up on the baseball and softball diamonds.

On this episode, Brad breaks down the 1-3A softball race (1:22), as Booneville, Kossuth and Mantachie are all chasing the No. 1 seed. In 1-2A (2:50), East Union is in control after Pine Grove’s upset loss to Baldwyn.

In baseball, Oxford is closing in on the 1-6A title after a series-opening win over Tupelo on Tuesday (3:25). And in 1-4A (6:00), Mooreville is in control but it’s a dog fight between four teams for the other three playoff spots.
