Four area baseball teams have advanced to the state finals, which will be played next week in Pearl.
On this episode, Brad and Dillon recap a couple of North finals series. In Class 1A, Tupelo Christian held off Pine Grove in Game 3 behind the arm and bat of Noah Foster (2:03). In 6A, Madison Central was simply too much for Tupelo, although the Golden Wave didn’t go down quietly (4:38).
Looking ahead to the championships, TCPS will meet Resurrection Catholic in 1A (6:54); East Union and Taylorsville square off in 2A (8:40); Booneville and its deep pitching staff face Magee in 3A (9:57); and Saltillo takes on Pascagoula in 5A (11:36).
There are quite a few coaching moves to talk about. Corinth promoted Justin Dye to head football coach on Wednesday (13:04) – he’s been the Warriors’ defensive coordinator the past five years. North Pontotoc has hired Dana Rhea as its softball coach (17:32), just a year after he left Tupelo for Kossuth. Joseph Koon has resigned as Nettleton’s baseball coach (19:28), and Scott Collier is leaving Mantachie to coach boys and girls basketball at TCPS (20:30).
No more Athletes of the Week for a while, but the guys do have a Shoutout (21:57).
