#229: Mooreville sweeps Tish; baseball playoffs begin – 04/28/21

We’re two rounds deep in the MHSAA softball playoffs. Brad and Dillon are here with some highlights, starting with Mooreville’s sweep of Tishomingo County (3:21). They also recap Hamilton’s series win over Smithville (6:28), plus they look at other notable results and look ahead to the quarterfinals (7:26).

Baseball opens its playoffs this week, and one series to watch will be Houston vs. Kossuth (10:18). In 4A, the guys discuss which team around here is the team to beat – Corinth or Mooreville (11:48). And they preview a likely second-round series between Tupelo and Oxford (13:26).

There are a couple of notable coaching moves (14:23), with Todd Lowery leaving Corinth football and Chase Clark taking over Bruce baseball. The guys also have a Shoutout (16:16) and Athletes of the Week (16:43).

#228: Softball playoffs start; more coaching news – 04/21/21

Believe it or not, the softball postseason is upon us. On this episode, Brad and Dillon take a look at some of the first-round matchups (8:12), including the West Union-Ingomar and Amory-Hatley showdowns. The guys also recap some recent baseball and softball action: Pontotoc got a big win against Itawamba AHS (1:28), Nettleton wrapped up the Division 1-3A title by beating Booneville (4:55), and Houston’s softball squad rolled past Corinth (6:33).

There’s more coaching news this week, with a pair of big basketball hires. Chad Brown has been promoted to lead Ripley’s girls (11:27), and he’s already got a track record of success as a head coach. New Site has turned to Stephen Deaton to coach its boys team (13:11), and he’ll face a challenge with four starters graduating.

Also on the show, a Shoutout (15:51) and Athletes of the Week (16:30).

#227: Big basketball coaching moves – 04/14/21

There have been several coaching moves this week – basketball and baseball both. Brad and Dillon are here to get you updated.

Jeff Norwood is leaving Tupelo after nine seasons to take the boys job at West Harrison (11:03). He led the Golden Wave to the Class 6A state semifinals three times. Starkville, meanwhile, has hired Woodie Howard as Greg Carter’s replacement (12:45). Howard was a Starkville assistant for five years before taking the Kemper County head post last season.

Also, there have been a couple of baseball coaching moves – and the season isn’t even over (14:34).

Speaking of the diamond, the guys recap some big games from the past week. South Pontotoc blanked Mooreville in a big Division 2-4A softball tilt on Saturday (1:57), with Sydney Brazil providing an offensive spark. Mooreville’s baseball team rolled past Pontotoc on Friday (4:02), as Jud Files notched EIGHT RBIs, half of them on a grand slam. And Booneville beat Kossuth on Tuesday in a 1-3A showdown (6:53).

Looking ahead, Tupelo looks to beat DeSoto Central again when the teams meet this weekend (8:59), and Mooreville gets a rematch with South Pontotoc – but not before facing a tough Itawamba AHS team (10:24).

#226: Big division showdowns on the diamond – 04/07/21

This is a big week on the diamond as division races start to really heat up.

On this week’s show, Brad and Dillon recap Amory’s baseball win over Booneville in a Division 1-3A showdown (1:10). They also look at some other notable results (4:19), including Tupelo baseball beating Lewisburg despite being no-hit.

There are more big games on tap this week, most of them rematches of Tuesday’s games (6:57).

On the basketball front, there’s some big coaching news, as Grant Goolsby is leaving Baldwyn after five years (8:24). Also on the show, a Shoutout (10:12) and Athletes of the Week (10:39).
