#248: ‘Sweet Christmas,’ Tupelo wins division opener – 09/29/21

Division play began for several football teams last week, including Tupelo. On this episode, Brad and Dillon recap the Golden Wave’s 35-6 win over Grenada (1:38) – a win sparked by Jamarion Scott’s forced fumble. In 1-5A, West Point continued its mastery of Lafayette (10:00). And in a non-division showdown, Ripley knocked off Booneville (6:48).

More division games are on tap this Friday. Tupelo Christian visits Biggersville in 1-1A action (11:49), the annual A-Game takes on extra importance (14:07), and Tupelo visits Oxford (16:32).

In scheduling news, the MHSAA has made some changes for the final two weeks of the regular season (18:43). Also on this episode: A New Albany volleyball update (19:39). a Shoutout (21:03), and Athletes of the Week (21:50).

#247: Lafayette-West Point headlines Friday schedule – 09/22/21

There were some big football games last week, and there are plenty more this week.

On this episode, Brad and Dillon recap Tupelo’s win over Columbus (:55), in which Deon Shumpert had a big pick-6. At the Crosstown Classic, Lafayette rallied past Oxford in a thriller (2:45). And Starkville held off Louisville to remain undefeated (5:53).

Looking ahead, this week offers up some huge matchups. Tupelo opens Division 2-6A play when it hosts Grenada (7:05), which has a running back with almost 1,000 yards already. Booneville will visit Ripley in a clash of two 3-1 teams (8:59), and West Point hosts Lafayette in what should be another epic 1-5A showdown (10:30).

Also on the show, an update on Alcorn Central volleyball (13:31), a Shoutout (15:13), and Athletes of the Week (16:06).

#246: Tupelo, Houston earn blowout wins – 09/16/21

Brad and Dillon are back with plenty of football to talk about.

Last week, Tupelo handed Corinth its worst loss in decades (1:09), limiting the Warriors to just 1 net rushing yard. Houston, meanwhile, whipped up on a Shannon team that has laid an egg two straight weeks (5:02). Also, West Point finally got on the field and did what it does best in a win over Noxubee County (8:26).

Looking ahead, East Webster battles Baldwyn in a Class 2A showdown (10:18). Corinth will try to bounce back against Houston (12:33), and Oxford takes on Lafayette in the annual Crosstown Classic (13:49).

The guys also have a Belmont volleyball update (16:54), a Shoutout (18:14), and Athletes of the Week (19:33).

#245: Nettleton, Booneville earn wild wins – 09/08/21

There was plenty of crazy in Week 2 of high school football.

On this week’s episode, Brad and Dillon recap Tupelo’s win over Saltillo (1:12), in which the Golden Wave had a bit of trouble before finally pulling away. Nettleton won a shootout over Mooreville when Jackson Cheek made a last-minute field goal (4:08), and the annual Skunk Bowl ended with a very unusual score (5:48).

Looking ahead to this week, several teams are finally seeing the field after dealing with COVID-19 issues. One of those is Houston, which hasn’t been hit by COVID but hasn’t played due to its first two opponents being quarantined. The Hilltoppers will host Shannon on Friday (9:23).

Ripley looks to continue its hot start when it visits Kossuth (12:13), and Corinth brings its dangerous Wing-T attack to Tupelo (15:42). Also, Oxford is headed out of state to take on Ruston, La. (18:24).

#244: Tupelo, Pontotoc open season with close wins – 09/01/21

Week 1 of the MHSAA football season had plenty of drama.

Brad and Dillon are here to hit the highlights. Tupelo pulled out a 5-3 win over Lafayette in a defensive battle (1:12), while Pontotoc scored on the game’s last play to stun Shannon (4:02).

Looking ahead to this week’s games, the Skunk Bowl rivalry is renewed when Booneville visits Baldwyn (8:35). Nettleton finally gets to hit the field when it takes on Mooreville (10:50), and two 4A powers clash when New Albany travels to Itawamba AHS (12:56).

Brad has an update on Oxford’s volleyball team (15:13), which mowed down rival Lafayette on Tuesday and looks every bit a No. 1-ranked team.

Also today, a COVID update on Corinth football (18:53), a Shoutout (20:01), and the return of Athletes of the Week (20:42).
