#313: Booneville softball, Tupelo baseball start strong in division – 03/29/23

Brad is back with some updates from the diamond.

Booneville’s No. 1-ranked softball team edged No. 2 Mantachie on Tuesday in the Division 1-3A opener for both squads (1:07). Booneville ace Hallie Burns struck out 16 batters. On the baseball front, Tupelo is off to a 3-1 start in 1-6A and got a no-hitter from Johnathon Rogers on Tuesday (2:58).

Brad also discusses the situation at Amory, which saw its athletic facilities heavily damaged by a tornado last weekend (4:37). The baseball and softball teams have received a ton of help from area schools and hope to resume their seasons this Saturday.

#312: Huge coaching moves; Montgomery hits 1K – 03/22/23

Brad is back from vacation and has plenty of updates for you on this episode.

There have been a couple of big coaching hires recently. Katie Bates is leaving Pine Grove after 10 years to be head girls basketball coach at Ripley (1:49), where she won a state championship in 2011. Lafayette has also found a familiar face, hiring Anthony Hart as head football coach (3:36). He led the Commodores to a pair of state titles the first time he coached there.

On the diamond, East Union took down rival West Union on Tuesday behind the arm of Landon Harmon (5:00). Starkville got a big division win over Tupelo thanks to Ethan Pulliam’s walk-off homer (6:55). And Mantachie softball pitcher Ramsey Montgomery recently recorded her 1,000th career strikeout (8:12).

Also today, Brad has Athletes of the Week (9:37).

#311: Booneville sweeps 3A titles, Ingomar girls take 1A – 03/08/23

The 2022-23 basketball season wrapped up last week in Jackson with the state championships, and Brad is here with a full report.

Booneville’s boys and girls made history by both winning the 3A titles for a second-straight season (1:12). Ingomar’s girls also won, taking the 1A crown behind the play of freshman Daylen Grisham (4:15).

On the baseball front, Ty Long hurled Ripley past New Albany in each team’s Division 2-4A opener on Tuesday (6:19). Brad also has Athletes of the Week (7:31).
