#240: Tupelo hires swim coach; 49ers win state – 07/28/21

This week’s podcast is short and sweet, but it’s got some good stuff to chew on.

Brad and Dillon discuss Tupelo’s hire of Josh Daniel as head swim coach (1:15). Daniel replaces Lucas Smith, who led the Golden Wave to 22 total state championships over 17 years.

On the baseball diamond, the Tupelo 49ers rolled through the Senior American Legion State Tournament (4:57). Up next is the Southeast Regional.

#239: Walton takes his talents to Nettleton – 07/21/21

The odyssey of Ty Walton continues. The erstwhile East Union and Olive Branch quarterback will spend his senior season at Nettleton (10:23), which Brad and Dillon believe will be a good fit for Walton.

Also this week, there’s more coaching news. Rob Browning has left Myrtle to lead the North Pontotoc girls basketball team (1:30), and Kossuth has hired coaches for both baseball and softball (4:25).

Speaking of coaches, Hill Country legend Sam Richey died last week (8:06). As a boys basketball coach, he won 904 games and six state championships.

#238: All-Area baseball; more coaching moves – 07/07/21

It might be Dead Week for high school sports, but that doesn’t mean Brad and Dillon have nothing to talk about.

On this episode, they recap the Daily Journal All-Area baseball team (1:08). Tupelo’s Hunter Elliott was named Player of the Year, while Saltillo’s Eric Reynolds was Coach of the Year.

The coaching carousel continues to spin. Matt Waldrop has resigned as North Pontotoc girls basketball coach to take an assistant’s job with South Pontotoc’s boys (7:08). Shannon stayed in-house for its girls basketball hire (8:18). And on the gridiron, Lamar Aldridge has returned to the area as a Ripley assistant (9:32).

Also on the show, a preview of the King City Classic Senior Legion tournament (11:01), and a recruiting update on Tupelo’s Jacarius Clayton (12:12).
