#320: Three softball champs; baseball up next – 05/24/23

Brad is back in town with a new episode. He was in Hattiesburg last week covering the softball state championships and has a full recap (1:56). Three area teams won titles – Booneville, East Union and Hamilton.

On the baseball front, Saltillo finished off a sweep of Ridgeland in the Class 5A North finals on Monday (5:00). Up next is the state finals in Pearl, where Saltillo and three other area teams will be in action next week (6:30).

Also today, we’ve got some basketball coaching news (8:24), plus Athletes of the Week (9:55).

#319: Lady Urchins advance; Carnes keeps smashing – 05/10/23

Brad is back with plenty of playoff updates from the diamond.

Area softball teams recently completed the third round. On Monday, East Union rallied past East Webster to claim a 2A series (2:27), setting up a North half matchup against Myrtle. Brad looks at the other series that start Thursday (4:04).

On the baseball front, Jon Robert Carnes smacked a grand slam to lead Pontotoc past Mooreville in Game 1 of their third-round 4A series (4:57). And Landon Harmon tossed a two-hitter as East Union topped Eupora in Game 1 of a 2A showdown (6:06).

#318: Alcorn Central, Saltillo win series openers – 05/03/23

Playoffs are in full swing for baseball and softball.

On this episode, Brad recaps Alcorn Central’s win against Hatley in Game 1 of their second-round Class 3A series (1:51). In 5A, Drake Douglas tossed a one-hitter as Saltillo took a 1-0 series lead on Neshoba Central (3:32).

On the softball diamond, Pontotoc was eliminated by Kosciusko (5:35), while Booneville’s Hallie Burns reached the 1,000-strikeout milestone (6:37). Looking ahead, the third round has some great-looking matchups, including Mantachie-Kossuth (7:26).

Also today, some recruiting news: Tupelo’s Tristan Jernigan has committed to an SEC school (8:19). And we have Athletes of the Week (9:26).
