#237: Knox, Rodgers primed for big seasons – 06/30/21

Brad and Dillon have some football to talk about on this week’s episode.

Earlier this week, Brad caught up with New Albany’s Cameron Knox, a two-way standout for New Albany (1:06). The Southern Miss commit is a big-play receiver, but he also makes an impact on defense at safety.

The guys also have an update on Corinth, which is led by first-year head coach Justin Dye (4:44). The Warriors are going to stick with their Wing-T offense, and the lead back will be junior Chris Rodgers, a promising prospect who, like Knox, also excels on defense.

There’s more coaching news to discuss, too. Shaune Holiday has been promoted to head baseball coach at Tupelo Christian (9:03), which just won the Class 1A state title. And Oxford has hired alum Cade Hoggard (10:15), who spent the last two years at Amory.

Also on the show, the guys recap the All-Area softball team (11:27), and they have a Shoutout (15:02).

#236: Corinth, Booneville make big baseball hires – 06/23/21

More big coaching moves have been made this past week, particularly on the baseball diamond.

On this episode, Brad and Dillon look at Corinth’s hiring of Kevin Williams (6:56), who just led Booneville to the Class 3A state championship. And his replacement will be Andy McGregor (7:46), who has led New Site the past three years.

On the basketball court, Jennifer Davis has been promoted to girls head coach at Jumpertown (9:13), while former Aberdeen coach Marquis Burnett is now leading West Point’s boys (10:28). Also, Mooreville has hired a pair of soccer coaches (10:57).

Also today, the guys have updates on Corinth’s boys basketball team (1:13) and Biggersville’s girls basketball team (4:33). Plus a Shoutout (11:35).

#235: Coaching carousel keeps spinning – 06/16/21

‘Tis the season for coaching moves – lots and lots of coaching moves.

On this episode, Brad and Dillon recap some of the most notable hires from the past few days. Nettleton has made several hires, including Luke Hargett as head baseball coach (6:42). Hargett was most recently an assistant at Madison Central, this year’s Class 6A state champ. Also, Brent Kuhl will take over the girls basketball team (10:15).

Elsewhere, Austin Marlin has been promoted to head baseball coach at Tishomingo County (8:52), and Phil Webb has been named athletics director at Pontotoc (12:14).

The guys also talks some Tupelo hoops. The boys are being led by a new coach, Robert Green, who is trying to get a feel for what kind of team he has (1:47). As for the girls, transfer Audria Houston should fit in nicely with an already talented squad (4:44).

#234: State titles and big coaching moves – 06/10/21

The 2020-21 high school sports season wrapped up in Pearl last week with the baseball championships, and three area teams brought home titles.

Brad and Dillon recap Tupelo Christian’s sweep of Resurrection Catholic in Class 1A (1:42), as Noah Foster came up big on the mound. In 3A, Booneville’s bats went off in a Game 3 defeat of Magee as the Blue Devils won their first title since 1999 (4:25). And in 5A, Saltillo ended a 49-year title drought by topping Pascagoula in three games (7:26).

East Union was swept in the 2A finals by Taylorsville (10:55), but pitcher Carter Phillips bounced back from a scary injury in Game 1.

On the coaching front, there have been a lot of moves lately. In fact, East Union baseball coach Chris Basil has retired after 29 years at the helm (13:32). Also stepping down is Ingomar baseball coach Andy Wilbanks, and he’ll be replaced by Ben Wallis (15:35).

Shane Hayles has left Nettleton to be the boys basketball coach at Mantachie (16:24), and Thrasher has hired longtime Warren Central assistant Ross Coley as head football coach (17:01).
