On this week’s episode, Brad and Dalton remember football coaching legend Jim Drewry, who died Monday at age 86 (2:08). Drewry, who spent most of his career at Booneville, won 346 games and three state titles. But he also had a big impact on people, including current Booneville coach Mike Mattox.
Also today, Tupelo will be without strong safety Tay Standifer this fall (5:58). The Ole Miss commit tore his Achilles’ tendon on the first day of spring drills, but so far it hasn’t negatively affected his recruiting. And speaking of spring football, West Point is looking to fill some big holes from last season’s state championship team (8:17).
The basketball coaching carousel continues to turn. Rolley Tipler has left Ashland, where he won two 1A state titles, to take over the Pontotoc boys (10:16). He inherits a solid team with most of its players returning. And in girls hoops, J.C. Hayles has taken over at West Union (12:26).
The baseball playoffs continue this weekend, and the guys look at some key series (13:30). In 4A, Pontotoc meets Ripley in what should be a great matchup. In 6A, Tupelo and Oxford are in action, while Smithville meets Myrtle in 1A.
The guys also look at the softball playoffs (17:47). Dalton saw Mooreville edge Kosciusko on Tuesday night when LuLu Franks hit a walk-off single.
And finally, we have Athletes of the Week (20:25).
