The Daily Journal put a bow on basketball with its annual All-Area team this past Sunday.
On this episode, Brad and Dalton take a close look at the selections. On the girls side (1:50), Belmont’s Claire Maroon was named Player of the Year. Despite her success on the court, she is giving up basketball to focus on academics in college. Ingomar’s Trent Adair was Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Falcons to a third consecutive Class 2A state championship.
On the boys side (5:51), Houlka’s Ma’Darius Hobson was named Player of the Year. He was a consistently productive player and led the Wildcats back to Jackson. Coach of the Year went to Corinth’s Keith Greene, who about midway through the season found a formula that worked and guided the Warriors to the 4A final.
Brad takes a peek ahead at next season, noting some key boys and girls players to watch (9:42).
On the diamond, Dalton recaps a pitchers’ duel between West Point and Saltillo on Tuesday (14:40). The Tigers pulled out a big division win thanks to a strong pitching performance by Pate Phillips and a walk-off hit by JG Wood. Dalton also looks at East Union’s baseball team (16:46), which has claimed another division title and is set up for several more years of success.
Brad took in Booneville softball’s 10-2 win over Mantachie on Tuesday (17:50). Maddie Tucker led the Lady Blue Devils with three doubles.
And finally, the guys present Athletes of the Week (18:47).
