#290: Tupelo, West Point open division play with wins – 09/28/22

Several area football teams opened division play last week, and Brad has some updates.

Tupelo got some big plays in the fourth quarter from both its offense and defense in a 20-7 win over Grenada (2:25). The Golden Wave are now 5-0 overall, 1-0 in Division 2-6A play.

West Point opened 1-5A action by rolling past Lafayette, 59-35 (5:04). Kahnen Daniels had a career night, rushing for 329 yards and four touchdowns. And back in 2-6A, Starkville fell well short against reigning state champ Madison Central (6:12).

Looking ahead to Week 6, Tupelo will host Oxford (7:28). The Golden Wave had a very poor outing when these teams met last season. The A-Game features Aberdeen at Amory (10:12). The visiting Bulldogs have made big strides under coach Alex Williams, but the Panthers are a loaded group. And in a 1-3A showdown, Kossuth visits Booneville (11:29).

#291: Division play, Dampeer Bowl on tap – 09/21/22

Brad is back with plenty of football for you on this week’s episode.

He takes a look back at Week 4, including Tupelo’s win at Columbus (1:47). The Golden Wave looked good offensively in the first half, but not so much in the second. Starkville, meanwhile, eked out a win over Louisville (4:16). And Ripley’s defense showed out in a shutout of Senatobia (5:17).

Looking ahead, several teams open division play this week, including Tupelo and Starkville (6:47). The Wave visit Grenada, while the Yellowjackets take on defending state champ Madison Central. Elsewhere, West Point visits a struggling Lafayette squad (8:14), and the Dampeer brothers meet when Houston hosts Amory (9:05).

Also today, updates on Mantachie volleyball (11:00) and Tupelo swimming (12:10), plus Athletes of the Week (13:21).

#290: Tupelo, Houston roll to Week 3 wins – 09/14/22

Brad has a packed show today, with football, volleyball and even some baseball news.

In the Football Rewind, he recaps Tupelo’s 42-10 win over Corinth (2:06). The Golden Wave offense took a while to get going, but when it finally did, the game quickly became a blowout. Houston also won big, over Shannon, but lost star tailback Jalen Washington to an injury (5:49). And Ripley’s defense flexed its muscles in a shutout of Kossuth (7:18).

Looking ahead to Week 4 matchups, Baldwyn visits East Webster (7:53), Amory hosts North Pontotoc (8:54), and Lafayette visits Oxford in the Crosstown Classic (10:03).

Brad also has an update on Belmont volleyball player Kerstin Moody (11:00), who recorded her 1,000th career kill Tuesday. In baseball news, McKinley Holland has resigned as Tupelo 49ers head coach (12:17).

#289: Corinth wins close one, faces Tupelo next – 09/07/22

Week 2 of the football season had some interesting results, and Brad is here to break it all down.

Corinth edged Kossuth in overtime (1:36), as the Warriors got a big stop on a two-point try. In the Skunk Bowl, Baldwyn took down Booneville (2:25), and then Starkville blew past West Point behind the play of QB Trey Petty (3:26).

Week 3 matchups include Tupelo visiting Corinth (4:41), Houston at Shannon (5:50) and Kossuth at Ripley (6:35). There’s also an update on Lafayette volleyball (7:22), plus Athletes of the Week (8:54).
