#202: Warriors, Wave take it on the chin – 09/30/20

Week 4 of the MHSAA football season saw some big matchups – including division openers – and that’s where Brad and Dillon start this week’s episode.

Corinth, the defending MHSAA 4A state champ, hosted reigning MAIS 6A champ Madison-Ridgeland Academy. And it wasn’t even close, as MRA rolled to a 51-17 win (1:07).

Tupelo opened Division 1-6A play with a frustrating 21-19 home loss to Hernando (3:52), which was efficient in the passing game. In 1-5A action, West Point once again beat Lafayette in a close one behind its rushing attack (6:49).

Looking ahead to this Friday, the guys preview Calhoun City at East Webster (8:35). It’s the 2-2A opener for both squads, and you can expect to see a heavy dose of the run game in this one. South Pontotoc visits Itawamba AHS in a 2-4A matchup (10:28), while Tupelo travels to unbeaten Olive Branch (12:22).

On the volleyball front, Brad recaps Saltillo’s big win over Lafayette (14:36), while Dillon reviews Ripley’s upset of Corinth (16:42).

The guys close out the show with a Shoutout (19:00) and Athletes of the Week (20:08).

#201: State champs to clash in Corinth – 09/23/20

Some huge football matchups are on tap this Friday. And of course, Brad and Dillon are here to break them down for you.

Corinth, the defending MHSAA Class 4A state champ, is hosting reigning MAIS 6A champ MRA (8:16). The game wasn’t scheduled until last week, and it should be a doozy. Tupelo opens division play with a home game versus Hernando (10:16), and Lafayette visits West Point in what’s sure to be another close battle (13:31).

The guys also recap some key games from last week. Tupelo got its first win of the year by edging West Lauderdale (1:01). Cayden Betts led Corinth past rival Kossuth (4:49), and Pontotoc earned another impressive win, this time against Houston (6:50).

Also on this episode, Brad recaps Tupelo volleyball’s win over Alcorn Central (15:36), there’s a Shoutout for Vardaman coach Brennan Pugh (17:00), and we have Athletes of the Week (18:18).

#200: Noles getting started; COVID strikes – 09/16/20

It’s a packed show today, and hey – it’s our 200th episode! Brad and Dillon kind of forgot to mention that, though, as they were too focused on talking about football and volleyball and COVID-19 – all kinds of stuff.

In the Week 2 football rewind, the guys recap West Point’s win at Tupelo (1:19), in which the Green Wave defense set the tone. Shannon pulled out an overtime win against Houston (3:39), as Sentwali “Stanka” White had a big night on the ground. And Oxford rallied to beat Lafayette in the Crosstown Classic (6:56).

Looking ahead, Houston and its potent offense will meet Pontotoc this week (8:13). Smithville is finally out of quarantine and will open its season against unbeaten Biggersville (10:14). And Tupelo will host North Panola after a change to the schedule (11:48).

Not everyone is playing right now, due to COVID-19 (13:55). Baldwyn’s football team will miss its next two games, and Corinth’s volleyball squad also went into quarantine this week.

Speaking of volleyball, Tupelo snagged a road win against Oxford on Tuesday (17:13), rallying late in each of the first two sets.

The guys wrap up the show with a Shoutout (18:44) and Athletes of the Week (19:31).

#199: Waves set to clash in Tupelo – 09/09/20

Week 1 of the MHSAA football season is in the books, with Brad and Dillon recapping some of the big games for you.

Tupelo went on the road and lost at Neshoba Central (1:18), which features a mighty strong running back in Jarquez Hunter. Booneville held off Ripley behind the efficient play of QB John Daniel Deaton (5:02). And Starkville beat rival West Point (8:02) as Luke Altmyer had a huge night.

Coming up this week, West Point visits Tupelo in a showdown of teams looking to bounce back from their Week 1 losses (9:23). Can West Point’s defense return to form? Can Tupelo’s passing game get on track?

Also this week, Booneville visits New Albany (11:13), and Lafayette battles rival Oxford (12:59).

On the volleyball court, Dillon recaps Amory’s 3-0 win over Belmont on Tuesday (14:46). The guys have a Shoutout for some cross country runners (16:54), and they present Athletes of the Week (17:29).

#198: Football season has arrived – 09/02/20

Football season gets into full swing this week with the start of the MHSAA season. On this episode, Brad and Dillon preview some of the big matchups, including West Point at Starkville (5:37), Tupelo at Neshoba Central (7:06) and New Albany at Pontotoc (8:12).

Dillon also recaps last Friday’s Amory-Mooreville scrimmage (2:11), in which the duo of Hunter Jones and Jay Hampton carried the Panthers. Not everyone was able to scrimmage last week, either due to weather or COVID-19. And a handful of area teams won’t be playing this week because of the virus (11:01).

In volleyball, Pontotoc won a five-set thriller against New Albany on Monday (14:02), while Macie Phifer led Ingomar to a win over West Union on Tuesday (17:07).

Also this episode, a Shoutout for Saltillo runner Madison Jones (19:04), and the Athletes of the Week feature finally returns (19:46).
