It might be the “dead week” for high school sports teams, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing for Brad and Dalton to talk about on this episode.
There have been several coaching moves, none bigger than Bill Russell returning to coach the South Pontotoc girls basketball team (1:50). The veteran coach retired after two years at the helm but was lured back after the school could not find a suitable replacement.
On the baseball diamond, Jamie Russell left Smithville after winning the Class 1A state title (4:52). He’ll be an assistant softball coach at Mooreville, his alma mater, and where his daughter is part of the softball program. Russell’s replacement is John Harris, who previously coached at Hatley.
Corinth made a girls basketball hire in Domonique Allen (6:44). The Belmont native takes over a team that won just one game last season, so she’s looking to instill some confidence in her players.
Also this week, the guys put a bow on summer basketball by looking at the New Site and Baldwyn boys teams (8:49). New Site is loaded and could make a run in 2A, while Baldwyn is expected to do well after dropping to 1A.
Dalton has an update on Aberdeen football (11:42), which is breaking in a new coach and a new quarterback. And finally, the guys give this week’s Shoutout to weightlifter Maddie Jasper (14:46).
