‘Tis the season for big division games in basketball, so Brad and Dalton are here to recap some of the more notable results from the past week.
In 1-1A, Biggersville’s boys won an epic overtime battle against Wheeler on Tuesday thanks to Hunter Stacy (5:45), who had a late steal and basket to seal it. He finished with 35 points. Back on Friday, Ingomar’s boys won a defensive struggle against 1-2A foe Baldwyn in a top-5 showdown (1:29). And Jaxon Orr carried Itawamba AHS past Shannon in a 2-4A matchup (3:34).
Looking ahead, Oxford visits Tupelo on Friday (10:02), with both the boys and girls games holding big seeding implications in 2-6A.
On Saturday, two annual showcases take center stage. The Hotbed Classic in New Albany features big-time boys matchups like New Albany-Holly Springs, and it will bring in some major out-of-state talent as well (12:03). On the girls side, the Robertson’s Sportswear Lady Challenge in Booneville will feature eight teams ranked by the Daily Journal, with the premier matchup being No. 1 Pontotoc vs. No. 2 Lafayette (14:09).
In football news, Aberdeen has found a new head coach in Alex Williams, who was previously at West Point (16:02). Also today, the guys give a Shoutout to TCPS girls soccer (17:43), and they present Athletes of the Week (18:47).
