We’re smack in the middle of basketball season, but football took center stage Wednesday, which was the beginning of the early signing period.
On this episode, Brad and Dalton look at the local players who signed Division I scholarships (12:07), including Tupelo’s Jordan Jernigan and Tay Standifer. They’re bound for Ole Miss, as is Lafayette linebacker Eric Jeffries, while Lafayette’s Brandon Turnage inked with Alabama.
In other football news, Calhoun City has a new head coach with the promotion of defensive coordinator Chad White (10:40). And Mississippi won the annual Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game on Monday with some help from Tupelo’s Jaquerrious Williams (13:17).
As far as hoops, Brad was again impressed by Jacorrius Stanfield, who led Okolona past Shannon on Friday (1:58). Tupelo’s boys upended No. 1 Starkville over the weekend and followed that with a road win against Itawamba AHS (3:34). On the girls side, Zanaiyah Daniel led Blue Mountain past TCPS on Monday (5:59).
Looking ahead, a big boys matchup looms Friday when No. 9 Pontotoc faces No. 3 Nettleton at the Amory Shootout (7:43). And Calhoun City’s girls, who are undefeated, travel to Oxford (9:26).
The guys wrap up the episode with a shoutout for South Pontotoc 3-point sniper Carson Newell (15:16) and Athletes of the Week (16:42).
