The MHSAA football playoffs continue this week with the North finals, and three area teams will be on the field Friday night.
Brad and Dalton preview each of those games on this episode. In Class 1A, Smithville has the unenviable task of traveling to Simmons (9:23), which has won three-straight championships and is on a 53-game winning streak. The Seminoles’ stingy defense will need to be in top form.
In 2A, Calhoun City visits Scott Central in a battle of two strong defensive squads (12:30). The Wildcats are making their third consecutive trip to the North final, while the Rebels haven’t been here since 2003.
And in 5A, three-time defending state champ West Point hosts division foe Olive Branch (14:59). The Green Wave have handed the Conquistadors their only three losses over the last two seasons, including in last year’s North final.
Brad and Dalton also look back at some of last week’s results. Calhoun City, led by linebacker/tailback Anfernee Campbell, blanked Philadelphia and showed off a strong pass defense (2:06). Smithville beat Okolona for the second time this year (4:44), tossing a shutout in the second half. And Corinth fumbled the game away late in a 4A playoff loss to Greenwood (7:01).
On the basketball court, Brad recaps Ripley’s big win against Booneville on Tuesday (18:26), and Dalton looks back at New Site’s defeat of South Pontotoc on Monday (21:05).
The guys also present Shoutouts (23:08) and Athletes of the Week (23:53).
