The MHSAA football playoffs are now in full swing for all classifications, with teams in 6A, 5A and 1A cranking up this week.
On this episode, Brad and Dalton examine what kind of odds Tupelo has when it opens the 6A playoffs at Northwest Rankin (9:05). Also in 6A, Starkville hosts its former coach, Ricky Woods, when South Panola pays a visit (10:34). And in 4A, Pontotoc looks to pick up a second-round win at Senatobia (12:04).
As for last week’s games, Smithville beat previously undefeated Biggersville to claim the Division 1-1A title (2:24). Booneville slopped through the mud to hold off Aberdeen in the 3A playoffs (4:38); Oxford closed the regular season strong by beating Tupelo (6:26); and Shannon was stunned at home by 4-seed Rosa Fort (7:46).
The football coaching carousel has started turning (18:11), with Larry Gann resigning at Vardaman and Perry Liles retiring from Calhoun City.
There’s plenty of news on the basketball court, with the season just getting under way. No. 1 large school Lafayette beat a strong Shannon team on Tuesday (13:38), while Pontotoc took down No. 2 Starkville on Saturday (15:18). Pine Grove, the two-time defending 1A girls champ, will be without star post player Karlie Rogers for the next few weeks after she suffered a knee injury (17:24).
The guys also present Athletes of the Week (20:16).
