The MHSAA state basketball tournament continues in Jackson, and Tuesday night brought us the highlight of the week.
On this episode, Blake joins Brad from Jackson and breaks down the heroics of Calvin Harris, whose shot from beyond half-court vaulted Baldwyn into the Class 2A state title game (1:45). The Bearcats will face a tall, athletic Coahoma County squad on Friday (8:28).
Several other area teams will be playing for a championship, including the Ripley and Lafayette girls, who meet for the 4A crown (10:27). Ashland’s boys have a chance to defend their 1A title (15:37), while West Point’s girls look to cap a Cinderella run in 5A (18:55).
There was plenty of heartache for local teams, too, with both the Booneville and New Site girls falling in the 3A semifinals on Wednesday (12:48). On the boys side, Ripley, Okolona, Shannon and Oxford all lost tough ones (20:24).
One thing this tournament has affirmed is Northeast Mississippi’s strength in basketball (24:33), with 22 area teams reaching the quarterfinals and 16 making the semis.
And finally, Blake presents the Athletes of the Week (26:13).
