The quarterfinal round of the MHSAA football playoffs kicks off Friday, and it’s highlighted by several rematches.
On this episode, Brad and Dalton preview three of the big games. In Class 1A, Smithville hosts Okolona (7:37), a team it beat in the regular season en route to a division title. It’s a similar situation for West Point in 5A, as the Green Wave host Lafayette (9:08), which it defeated in a Division 1-5A game earlier this season.
And it 2A, Calhoun City welcomes Philadelphia (10:44), which it eliminated from the playoffs last year. The Wildcats also beat the Tornadoes earlier this season.
The guys also recap some of last week’s games. North Pontotoc came up just short at North Panola in 3A (1:28), while Pontotoc rolled past Senatobia in 4A (4:32) and Booneville’s perfect season ended at the hands of Water Valley in 3A (5:55).
And a bit of coaching news: Eric Spann is leaving Aberdeen after four seasons (12:59).
On the basketball court, Dalton says he was impressed by the Tupelo boys in their 30-point win over Shannon on Tuesday (14:04). Ingomar’s girls also picked up a nice win Tuesday, defeating a strong Ripley team behind Gara Beth Self’s 31 points (15:48). And Brad liked what he saw out of the TCPS boys in their win Monday against Walnut (17:26).
The guys also give shoutouts to Jumpertown’s Austin Geno (18:44) and Kossuth’s Morgan Hodum (20:50), and they present Athletes of the Week (21:17).
