Week 1 of the 2018 football season is in the books, and of course, Brad and Dalton are here to break down some of the key results.
Tupelo had a big win at Meridian (1:14), rallying from a 17-0 halftime deficit. But the victory was costly, as the Golden Wave lost three key starters to injuries, including quarterback Stephon McGlaun. Peyton Puckett will have to step in for him the next few weeks.
Corinth beat Shannon in a thriller, 29-28 (4:12). The Warriors’ Wing-T ultimately proved too tough for the Red Raiders, whose passing game suffered when torrential rains showed up in the second half.
Pontotoc picked up a solid season-opening win against a very good Houston team (5:44). The Hilltoppers had a chance to tie it late, but Caleb Triplett sealed the win with a 100-yard interception return for touchdown.
Looking at Week 2, Corinth will visit Tupelo (7:22). While the Wing-T is always tough to defend, the Wave have good speed on defense. The X-factor could be Corinth QB D.T. Sheffield, who can run but can also throw it.
This week sees three big rivalry games (8:55): The Joe Bowl (Walnut at Falkner), the Skunk Bowl (Booneville at Baldwyn), and the Little Egg Bowl (Starkville at Oxford). The guys also preview Calhoun City at Houston (10:47).
The Athletes of the Week feature returns (11:58), with New Albany volleyballer Greta Blakemore and Itawamba AHS running back Ike Chandler earning the honors.
